Let me start by saying that oh my god I love my iPod Touch though I would like some more capacity for my music (those 32 gig ones look awfully nice but soooo expeeeensive...). Naturally, I thought it was a really dumb idea at first.
I said "why would I want a PDA in an iPod? If I wanted a PDA, I'd get one. For now, I can get 80 GB instead of 8 GB for the same price." Then, more and more apps came out, and the promise of handheld wi-fi enticed me. I sold out and upgraded my baby, Murphy, to a Touch.
While I'm not crazy about that touch-screen keyboard (it is very smooshed when viewing it in portrait mode), I like being able to get online using a handheld device without being charged, like my phone company charges me. Being able to check Shapely Prose or Little Gamers in a hotel room without getting out my computer and booting it up is a godsend.
The apps are also a huge draw for me - it's all so community-based, so collaborative... and it's awesome. While I have some big name games - DDR S (not as fun as playing with a mat, but good music and keeps my rhythm in shape!), I Love Katamari (anyone who has so much as TALKED TO ME in the past few months will know, I DO LOVE MY KATAMARI DAMACY and I am currently trying to unlock everything in the original)... "Unblock Me" is probably my favorite game. The goal is to move around blocks so you can get the red block through the hole on the right side of the screen, and while it sounds easy, it ranges from medium difficulty to UNGODLY HARD... and there are something like 500 levels. It's crazy. I also love my lightsaber. As for useful things, I have Epocrates Rx on my iPod, which is a simple medical application that enables you to look up drug interactions - this has been wonderful for ensuring that OTC drugs don't interact with my meds, my mother's meds, my father's meds, my sister's meds (our house is pretty much a pharmacy), my friends' meds, etc. etc. I also have Wikiamo for anytime I get bored and feel like being on Wikipedia for a few hours. AroundMe is good for traveling - when we were in DC for NECC '09, I could check everything around us to see what food there was! (Though we didn't end up going anywhere except a hot dog stand.) AirportStatus is really useful and neat, and Answers links me right to Yahoo Answers, which is good for quick info or just a good laugh.
Also, getting to iTunes directly from my iPod is awesome. THANK GOD FOR ITUNES PLUS! NO MORE DRM!! <3<3
